The Yoxford Boys

Leiston Airfield, the way it was.

Sixty-six years ago, where there’s now just a few tumble-down huts in a field between Theberton & Leiston, over 3,000 Americans lived on our local airbase.

Today former Lt Joseph E. Shea comes to visit us again, on his way to the Yoxford Boys Memorial service on 29th May. If you’d like to have the chance to sit down and talk to one of the Mustang pilots who helped stop you needing to speak German come along to our Deli-Cafe this week.

We’ll meet again.

in fact, we can all meet again at the Yoxford Boys’ Memorial Service on 29th May, near the Cakes & Ale caravan park. Call us to find out what time it’s on, gather at the memorial stone is in Harrow Lane, which crosses the main runway on the old airbase, USAAF station 373.

As we’ve said before, you can find out more about Leiston airfield here, find-out how and why they came to be called the Yoxford Boys here or come and meet former Lt. Joseph E. Shea and get him to tell you how they came to be called the Yoxford Butchers. Joe’s here for the next two weeks here at Yoxford Post Office. Come and see him, and check-out the Friends of Leiston Airfield website here.
