How We Do Things

We used to travel a lot

Our fabulous famous cheese trailer travelled all over East Suffolk, with regular visits to Woodbridge Marker on Thursdays, Friday Street Farmshop at weekends through the summer, Easton Farm Park farmers marker, the Jolly Sailor at Orford, Heveningham Hall show, Hadleigh Agricultural Show, Halesworth Farmers Markets and a load more. We got around.

As of November 2010 though, we moved indoors and got respectable. Now you can find us at Yoxford Post Office and we do rather a lot more than just cheese. We still have probably the best selection of cheese on the Sunrise Coast. But we also have organic bread, free-range duck, hen and quail eggs, organic milk, goat butter, wasabi peas and what seems to be our trademark, a strange collection of very, very good food chosen with thought, care and what it tastes like as the top priority. Oh, and coffee. We have a fantastic espresso/cappuchino machine that serves the best and most brilliant coffee for miles. The coffee is blended to our own specification but that’s only half of what it takes to make good coffee. Caring what you do isn’t enough. You have to keep the cups and filters warm and you have to clean the milk wand and the filter cup every time you use it, not every day you use it, as they seem to think at some places. Next time you go anywhere they serve coffee, have a look at the milk wand, the steam pipe that makes the bubbles in the milk. It should be clean, bright and shiny. All the time. Every time. It’s not exactly rocket science, is it?

Tasting

Everyone’s taste-buds are different. What tastes sweet to me might taste bland to you. That’s why we prefer our customers to taste our cheeses before they buy. There is no obligation and we really don’t mind if you don’t buy a cheese you don’t like. It’s better to find-out while you can still chose another cheese than only realise you don’t like a cheese when you sit down to eat it.

So please, don’t stand there wondering. Just ask to taste the cheese.

Labels

As you probably know, we don’t have labels on our cheeses. Our stock varies according to what we think tastes best on the day we buy it. Sometimes the price of cheese changes, among other reasons because the pound fluctuates in value against the Euro. But most of all, we think the name of a cheese is nowhere near as important as the taste.

If you know the name of a cheese, great. If you don’t, or you can’t pronounce it, we don’t care. Just say: “What does that one taste like?” and you will know everything that matters about the cheese – most importantly,  you like the taste or not.

Some companies make a big deal about recycling. We don’t. We’ve always recycled. Our bags are paper, 100% re-usable and recyclable. Our carrier bags are also paper. You can re-use them and recycle them as well.

Have a look at the cheese lists and if you’re living in the Suffolk Coastal area, we will deliver. If you live further away, we’ll post your cheeses to you. Contact us by email or call us on the numbers on the left.

Cash, Cheques and Cards

We accept cash, cheques with a cheque card and of course we accept credit and debit cards.

If you’d prefer to use a card to keep track of what you’re spending, or you just don’t like walking around with lots of cash, that’s fine with us.

We always accept valid credit and debit cards.
